Jungle Counting Book

The following activities can be done with the jungle counting book given to your child in their Therapy to Go bag.

Targeted skills

  • Gross motor: reaching, sitting balance
  • Sensory awareness: visual and touch
  • Fine motor: grasping, coordination
  • Cognitive skills: number identification
  • Communication: language development

Reminders

  • Be patient with your child. Give them enough time to complete each activity.
  • Show your child how to do each activity before they do it themselves.
  • Help your child as needed.

Activites

Touch the book

  1. Show your child a page from the book.
  2. Have your child point to different objects in the book.
  3. Encourage your child to reach forward and touch the book. Each page has different textures for your child to touch.
  4. Let your child hold the book if they are able.

Talk about the book

  1. Talk with your child about what you see on each page. This may include:
    • Colors
    • How the pages feel
    • What the animal in the card is or sounds like. You may say, “This is a monkey” and imitate the sound a monkey makes.
  2. Count different items in the book with your child, such as animals and objects.
