Using a Routine to Reduce Stress for Sadie’s ITP Treatments

Sadie Wright’s family has created a routine to help make her doctor visits less stressful. Sadie enjoys seeing her care team, and while she does not look forward to blood draws, the familiar faces and routine help her feel comfortable.

Before each visit, Sadie knows exactly what to expect. She prepares for her routine blood draw with a special tool called “Buzzy,” which helps numb the area, and she sits with a parent or sometimes her sister to distract her.

The family has kept this routine for over four years, and it has made a big difference. Sadie knows what will happen during each visit, including when she gets her favorite snacks afterward. This consistency helps her stay calm and makes her treatments feel more like a regular part of life rather than something to fear.
