Sensory Color Sorter

The following activities can be done with the sensory color sorter given to your child in their Therapy to Go bag.

Reminders 

  • Be patient with your child. Give them enough time to complete each activity. 
  • Demonstrate and provide education to your child with each activity before having them complete the activity.  

Activities 

While doing these activities, you may ask your child questions to help them improve language skills. For example, you could ask:  

  • How many different colors do you see? 
  • How many pieces are there for each color?  
  • How many pink pieces are still in the middle?
  • How many yellow pieces are still there?

Name the color

  1. Start by putting all of the colors in the middle of the color sorter.
  2. Ask your child to name each color. You can do this by:
    • Asking your child to find a piece that is a certain color
    • Pointing to a color and asking your child to name it

Sort the colors

  1. Ask your child to hold the sorter with both hands.
  2. Ask your child to use their thumbs to move each color to the matching section.

If they want, your child can put the sorter on a sturdy surface like a table. They can use their pointer or middle fingers to move each color to its matching section.
