  1. Clean the area where your supplies will be placed 1 with an alcohol pad or other disinfectant
  2. WASH YOUR HANDS

  1. S (Saline Flush)

    1. Prepare saline syringe  
    2. Clean needleless connector  
    3. Attach saline syringe 
    4. Unclamp and flush with saline 
    5. Re-clamp

  2. A (Attach Medicine)

    1. Clean needleless connector
    2.  Attach medicine or fluids
    3. Unclamp to start
    4.  When finished re-clamp

  3. S (Saline Flush)

    SASH Method
    1. Clean supply area if needed
    2. Wash your hands
    3. Prepare saline and heparin syringes
    4. Clean connection area with alcohol pad
    5. Detach empty bag or syringe
    6. Clean needleless connector 
    7. Attach saline syringe 
    8. Unclamp and flush with saline 
    9. Re-clamp

  4. H (Heparin Flush)

    1. Clean needleless connector
    2. Attach heparin syringe
    3. Unclamp and flush with heparin
    4. Re-clamp
    5. Clean needleless connector
    6. Apply disinfectant cap
    SASH Method

Scrub Times: 

  • Site Scrub: 10 second scrub and 5 second dry
  • Alcohol Pad: 15 second scrub and 15 second dry 

Note: When medicines are no longer being given through the line(s), saline will no longer be needed. Heparin flush only in each line every 24 hours.
