Some medicines pose a health risk to caregivers. The ENFit pill pouch provides a safe and easy way to crush pills.
The ENFit pill pouch is a sealable bag that has a built-in nozzle on the end. This nozzle connects to the ENFit syringes to make a secure connection between the pill pouch and syringe. This provides a protective barrier when you are crushing hazardous medications for your child.
1. Wash your hands with soap and water and dry them well.
2. Put on new gloves.
3. Place the pill into the ENFit bag through the zip seal. Seal the bag tightly.
4. Use the syringe to draw up the amount of water needed. Remove any air bubbles by gently tapping the syringe and slightly pushing the barrel into the syringe
5. Connect the water-filled syringe to the pill bag by twisting the syringe tip onto the connector nozzle.
6. Add a small amount of water into the pill bag. Let it sit for 1 minute to wet the pill.
7. Use a rolling pin (provided by outpatient pharmacy) to crush the pill. Continue to roll the pin back and forth until the pill has turned into powder. Add more water as needed.
8. Push the syringe barrel all the way in to add the remaining water from the syringe into the pill bag.
9. Shake the pouch gently until all the medicine is dissolved.
10. Slowly pull the syringe barrel back to draw the dissolved pill solution into the syringe. Hold the pouch up and syringe down so the solution goes into the syringe.
11. Carefully remove the syringe from the pill pouch and give the medicine as instructed by your care team.
