Furosemide (also known as Lasix®) is used to help rid the body of extra fluid. This type of medicine is called a diuretic. It also helps lower blood pressure. Furosemide comes as a 20 mg tablet, a 40 mg tablet, and a liquid taken by mouth. It is also available as a clear liquid given into a vein (IV).
Symptoms of an allergic reaction include: rash, hives, itching, chills, fever, headache, muscle ache, shortness of breath, coughing, tightness in the throat, swelling of the face or neck.
Not all patients who take furosemide will experience these side effects. Common side effects are bolded, but there may be others. Please report all suspected side effects to your doctor or pharmacist.
