What is Dexrazoxane?

Dexrazoxane is a medicine used to prevent damage to the heart caused by certain cancer medicines such as doxorubicin. It can also help treat tissue damage caused by some medicines if they leak out of a vein when they are given.

Possible Side Effects

Symptoms of an allergic reaction include: rash, hives, itching, chills, fever, headache, muscle ache, shortness of breath, coughing, tightness in the throat, swelling of the face or neck.

Not all patients who take DRUG will experience these side effects. Common side effects are bolded, but there may be others. Please report all suspected side effects to your doctor or pharmacist.

  • Tell your doctor if your child is using a medicine on the skin called dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO).
  • Sexually active patients should take steps to prevent pregnancy during and after treatment as recommended by their doctor.
  • Patients should tell their doctor if they are pregnant or breastfeeding.
