What is cyclobenzaprine?

Cyclobenzaprine (also called Flexeril®) is a medicine that helps relax muscles and prevent muscle spasms. It is available as a 10-mg tablet.

Possible side effects

  • Feeling dizzy
  • Feeling drowsy
  • Nausea
  • Upset stomach
  • Dry mouth

    These are the most common side effects, but there may be others. Please report all side effects to the doctor or nurse.

Symptoms of an allergic reaction include: rash, hives, itching, chills, fever, headache, muscle ache, shortness of breath, coughing, tightness in the throat, swelling of the face or neck.

Not all patients who take cyclobenzaprine will experience these side effects. Common side effects are bolded, but there may be others. Please report all suspected side effects to your doctor or pharmacist.

Tips for patients and families

Be sure to discuss all questions and instructions with your doctor or pharmacist. 

  • This medicine may cause you to feel dizzy or drowsy. Do not operate heavy equipment or drive a motor vehicle until you see how this medicine will affect you.
  • If you take other pain medicines, they can increase the sleepy feeling you get with cyclobenzaprine.
