João de Bragança is a bereaved father from Portugal who lost his 7-year-old daughter, Madalena, to diffuse intrinsic pontine glioma in 2001. A former president of Childhood Cancer International (CCI), he currently serves on its board and is president of Acreditar, a Portuguese association for children with cancer. He holds a background in mechanical engineering, a master’s degree in literary theory, and is pursuing a doctorate in the same field. After 20 years in the corporate sector, he retired as a translator. He remains involved in the childhood cancer community, particularly in developing the Global Childhood Cancer Survivors’ Network (SurNet) alongside survivors worldwide. He is a member of the Together by St. Jude™ External Advisory Board.
