  • Location
  • Experience treating your specific type of cancer
  • Specialist services
  • Clinical support services
  • Type and size of facility
  • Clinical trials offered
  • Housing options for families
  • Family-based services and resources
  • National Cancer Institute (NCI) designation
  • Rank in national surveys

Hospital rankings and designations

National rankings and designations can be helpful in making a decision about where to seek treatment, since they are decided by independent organizations not associated with any hospital. The facility locator tool gives information on these two:

  • U.S. News Best Hospitals – The U.S. News best hospital specialty rankings analyze data from over 4,500 medical centers to rank hospitals based on factors such as survival rates, patient safety, and patient care services. Expert opinion from board-certified physicians is also obtained through physician surveys. In each specialty area, the top 50 hospitals are ranked in order of the score they received.
  • NCI-Designated Cancer Centers – The National Cancer Institute (NCI) recognizes institutions throughout the United States that have shown scientific leadership in the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of cancer. There are currently 69 NCI designated cancer centers throughout the US.
